# Meet Sakina, Senior Data Engineer at Syroco

After graduating from ECE Paris with a specialisation in computer science and electronics, Sakina built her career across several industries, from research in the United States to health tech and consulting in France. Drawn to [fast-paced environments](https://syro.co/en/news/climate-tech-startup-syroco-selected-french-blue-tech-index/) and [meaningful innovation](https://syro.co/en/news/syroco-recognised-thetius-top-150-innovation-maritime/), she found in Syroco the perfect balance.

She enjoys working at the crossroads between technology and purpose by transforming [complex, raw data](https://syro.co/en/syroco-live-features/) into actions that directly contribute to [energy efficiency](https://syro.co/en/news/journey-actual-savings/) and decarbonisation of maritime transport.

As a data engineer her mission is to make data usable, reliable, and accessible for every team that depends on it. For example, she ensures that the data collected from vessels is properly structured and ready to feed Syroco’s [digital twins](https://syro.co/en/digital-twin/). 

What drives her most is knowing that every optimisation and every improvement in data quality helps ship operators make [smarter and more impactful decisions](https://syro.co/en/news/operational-results-voyage-optimisation/) at sea. Data engineering calls for both creativity and precision, designing systems that are robust enough to perform reliably, yet flexible enough to evolve as the company grows and the needs evolve.

The constant need to adapt, optimise, and scale these systems keeps her work both challenging and deeply rewarding.

For Sakina, meaning and impact are what give her work purpose. Joining Syroco was above all a way to contribute to a project with a positive environmental impact.

What she appreciates most is being part of a team driven by the same ambition to make a difference. Working alongside people who share that mindset makes every challenge more motivating.

Outside of work, Sakina brings the same curiosity and energy to her personal life. She loves trying new sports and staying active  whether it’s running, hiking, swimming, or yoga. Always eager to explore, she enjoys discovering new activities and spending time outdoors, especially in the mountains.
