We are looking for a highly motivated Applied Mathematics Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will develop and apply mathematical models and interpolation techniques to predict ship performance under diverse operating conditions. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects that merge theory, simulation, and real-world applications in the maritime sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model Development & Validation: Create, validate, and refine mathematical models for ship performance prediction (e.g., calm water, windage, sea and swell, propulsion systems).
  • Data Interpolation: Implement advanced interpolation techniques such as Kriging, splines, or radial basis functions to enhance model accuracy and usability.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse extensive datasets from simulations and real-world trials to improve model fidelity.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including naval architects, hydrodynamicists, and software developers, to integrate models into comprehensive solutions.
  • Framework Development: Contribute to the design and enhancement of ship performance prediction frameworks aligned with industry standards and client needs.
  • Documentation: Prepare clear documentation of methods, results, and technical insights for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

Required:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • A degree in Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field (Master's or PhD preferred).
  • Strong foundation in mathematical modeling, numerical methods, and data interpolation.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or R.
  • Familiarity with optimisation techniques and statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamics, ship performance, or the maritime industry is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred:

  • Experience with machine learning techniques for predictive modeling.
  • Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Familiarity with maritime standards and regulations related to ship performance.
