Role Overview
We are seeking a Naval Performance Engineer to join our forward-thinking team. In this role, you will design, validate, and refine ship performance models, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal integration into our solutions. Your expertise will be instrumental in enabling fleet owners to achieve peak operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Performance Modeling: Develop and validate models for ship performance under various conditions, including calm water, windage, sea and swell, and propulsion systems.
- Model Integration: Work alongside software developers to integrate performance models into Syroco’s platform.
- Data Analysis: Analyse and interpret performance data from simulations and real-world trials to enhance model accuracy and reliability.
- Hydrodynamics Expertise: Apply principles of naval architecture and hydrodynamics to refine predictions of ship resistance, propulsion efficiency, and fuel consumption.
- Optimisation: Contribute to voyage optimisation solutions by integrating performance models with weather routing strategies.
- Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical documentation for internal use and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Required:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- A degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field (Master's or PhD preferred).
- Strong understanding of hydrodynamics, resistance, propulsion, and ship performance metrics.
- Experience with numerical methods and performance modeling techniques.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with optimisation techniques and statistical data analysis.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary settings.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and/or finite element methods (FEM).
- Experience with real-world ship trials and performance data analysis.
- Familiarity with maritime standards and regulations related to vessel efficiency and emissions.
- Understanding of weather routing and voyage optimisation concepts.
