Syroco Live Enhances Energy Efficiency and Voyage Economics for Bulk Carriers
Marseille, France - December 11, 2025 - Climate tech specialist Syroco is pleased to announce new results from its voyage optimisation platform, Syroco Live. The system, which leverages advanced predictive models to improve routing and energy management, demonstrates significant potential in enabling bulk carriers to operate more efficiently.
The capabilities of Syroco Live were recently validated on a transoceanic voyage by an Oldendorff Carriers vessel, where the platform dynamically adjusted route and power settings to take advantage of favorable weather conditions. This real-time optimisation reduced fuel consumption while preserving schedule reliability.
“Early trials on our vessel delivered indications on both fuel savings and emissions reduction,” said Torsten Barenthin, Director Research & Development at Oldendorff Carriers. “The system supports our data-driven approach to voyage planning and complements our broader decarbonisation strategy.”
Syroco Live enables both onboard and shoreside teams to make confident decisions that balance efficiency, safety, and commercial priorities. A key factor of performance is the high accuracy and reliability of Syroco Live’s fuel consumption predictions. By leveraging physics-based ship digital twins and high-frequency data from vessel systems, the solution delivers precise calculations of fuel use under varying conditions. The intuitive interface provides real-time advice and recommendations to crews, fostering the adoption of the solution.
The voyage optimisation platform also incorporates economic parameters such as charter costs into its routing logic. This ensures that voyage optimisation decisions are not only energy-efficient but also economically aligned with the commercial context of the vessel, balancing fuel savings and voyage duration with time charter costs or penalty implications.
“Syroco is proud to support Oldendorff Carriers’ commitment to more sustainable shipping, and we are thrilled by the growing adoption of smart technologies to drive operational excellence across the maritime industry.” said Alex Caizergues, CEO and co-founder of Syroco.
