Onboarding Ship Captains with Syroco Live: Ensuring Seamless Adoption and Operational Efficiency

When Syroco Live is deployed aboard a vessel, it is crucial to ensure that the captain and bridge crew fully understand how to leverage the platform to optimise their voyage, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Syroco’s onboarding process is designed to provide comprehensive training, ensuring smooth integration and adoption, which drive effective use of the application on every voyage.

Dedicated onboarding session

Upon deployment of Syroco Live, the Syroco customer success team schedules a dedicated onboarding session with the ship's captain. During this session, usually done over visioconference (sometimes on-board the vessel when schedule permits), a Syroco specialist provides a detailed walkthrough of the platform, demonstrating its key functionalities and how it will optimise the daily operations of the vessel. This ensures that the crew is well-equipped to utilise the application from day one. Usually, this session is attended by the vessel’s master and some of his staff - typically the second officer and/or the navigation officer.

Introduction to digital twins

One of the core features of Syroco Live is the digital twin, an accurate representation of the ship that simulates her performance and efficiency at any time. The onboarding session includes an explanation of how the digital twin has been built  and how it takes into account the characteristics of the vessel, how and why it is used to help in decision making throughout the voyage.

Weather forecast integration

Weather conditions are of course the most significant factor influencing daily operations. Syroco integrates real-time weather forecasts to help ships plan routes with greater precision. The onboarding session explains which data is available, how to interpret and utilise the forecasts, allowing captains to adapt their journey in response to changing conditions.

Live hands-on software training

To ensure complete confidence in the platform, the Syroco specialist conducts a live demonstration for the captain and drives his first experience. This hands-on session allows the captain to interact with the app in real-time, applying the knowledge gained during the onboarding process and ensuring a smooth transition to using the platform independently.
